Here's my very dear friend Omid Safi, writing about his vision for progressive Islam for the University of Chicago Divinity School yesterday. Omid and I met in 12th grade AP English class and have been friends ever since that book report on Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury. He's now an Associate Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and co-chair for the Study of Islam Section at the American Academy of Religion. Nice work, Omid!
