Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Marie Osmond, and bad choices

Dancing with the Stars is one of those secret guilty pleasures in life...something you can watch with your kid, while folding laundry and eating frozen pizza. It's cheez-whiz and makes no apologies for that...kind of like those movies in your DVD collection that you would be embarrassed to have a guest notice. Speaking of which...

A few months back, we introduced Jeff's kids to the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which they had not seen. It's funny how your memory plays tricks...I could have sworn that was a GOOD movie, but it certainly does not hold up through repeat viewings. Sure, Truly Scrumptious is pretty and the grandpa-traveling-in-an-outhouse song is funny...but does anyone need to see the Music Box dance EVER again?

Marie Osmond thought so. I watched it live and didn't completely hate it, but man, is it bad the second time around!

If you want another fun, cheesy dance fix, check out the 1992 Australian film "Strictly Ballroom," directed by Baz Luhrmann (that should clue you in right there!).

Did Jeff see Strictly Ballroom? If so, I now know the identity of the other straight man in Iowa to see it.

That movie was an early date movie of TRS and SHS.

Ted, if you liked that one, you should definitely rent the Australian film "The Castle." You'll get a huge kick out of it.

I did see it, courtesy of the woman who shares this blog with me. I think its a movie that guys wouldn't dare pick themselves, but will admit liking after the woman in their life introduces it.
