Katherine McPhee Latest "Idol" To Be Dropped

American Idol season five runner-up Katherine McPhee has become the latest artist from "Idol" to be dropped by a label owned by parent company Sony. McPhee's dismissal follows the loss of contracts by Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard.

I can see why Hicks and Studdard were dropped. Ruben's song "Sorry 2004"--in which he apologizes to someone for, well, everything he's ever done--is truly one of the worst ever recorded.

But the fact that McPhee's first release bombed is a shame. Give it a listen--particularly the songs "Love Story" and "Do What You Do"--and you'll wonder, like me, how Britney's songs "Gimme More" and "Piece of Me" are charting while McPhee gets no love.

While we are discussing CDs-that-tanked-that-should-have-been-big-hits, check out last year's release by Mandy Moore called "Wild Hope." Her song "Latest Mistake" was one of my favorites of 2007.

Radio was too busy trying to shove Paris Hilton and Ashlee Simpson at us to notice.
