Irvine Robbins (as in Baskin-Robbins) Dies

Irvine Robbins died in his sleep Monday in California at the age of 90. It was Robbins and his brother-in-law Burton Baskin who started the 31-flavor craze at their store Baskin-Robbins.

These days there are multiple ice cream concoctions available on every corner. But there was a time when heading to Baskin-Robbins to see what crazy combination was available was a real treat. Dude: they offered pink bubblegum, which means when I finished my ice cream, I STILL had gum to chew!

Yep, I sound like a ol' fogey. But it was Irvine and Burton who ultimately paved the way for other folks to invent desserts like Cherry Garcia.
