The Washington Post is reporting that 17-year-old Bristol Palin, the daughter of Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, is 5 months pregnant. She is supposedly going to marry the father of the baby, though details about when are unavailable. Will the campaign schedule force an even quicker shotgun wedding? If so, I feel for Bristol and the baby's father, whose predicament should be entirely personal and private. How awful to have to race down the aisle because your mother's political future depends on it. And of course, it's well-documented that teen marriages are challenging in and of themselves, even without the complicating factors of a baby or a mother running for Vice President of the United States.
Regardless of when or if Bristol marries the baby's father, it seems that the abstinence-only message that Governor Palin supports didn't play out so well in her own home.
